Customer/org unit segmentation is DIFFERENT from web segmentation.
Segmentation is used to restrict users from records they can view. If segmentation is in place, users can only see records visible to their own organization unit. If segmentation is not in place, users can see all customers. To set up segmentation for the organization unit, the Segment Control checkbox must be checked on the Organizational Unit Maintenance (APP003) screen.
If the Segment Control checkbox is UNchecked for ALL org units, then all customers can be viewed in ALL org units. If the Segment Control checkbox is checked for certain org units:
Customers created in the org unit where the Segment Control checkbox is checked can view that customer.
Customers created in a different org unit cannot be viewed from an org unit where the Segment Control checkbox is checked.
If you are logged into an org unit where the Segment Control checkbox is UNchecked, you can view all customers regardless of which org unit they were created in.
If you are using segmentation (i.e., the Segment Control checkbox is checked for one or more org units, at least ONE org unit should have the Segment Control checkbox UNchecked so that you can view all records.
The chart below is a sample setup to demonstrate how segmentation could work:
