Membership Join User Already Exists Control Overview

The first step in the membership join process is to identify the prospective member and to ensure data integrity. If the web user is NOT already logged in, the Membership Join Registration control will prompt the web user to enter his/her email address, and the system checks your database to see if the email address is already in use. If the email address is already in the Single Sign On (SSO) database, the User Already Exists control will give the web user the option to log into the site, retrieve his/her forgotten password or username, or provide an alternate email address to begin the membership process. This is not expected to be a frequent occurrence.

This control should be dropped on the same page as the Membership Join Registration and Login Request controls.

For more information on how to configure this control, see Configuring the Web Settings for the User Already Exists Control.

Customer Impact

After setting up this control, if your organization does NOT allow multiple web users to share the same email address, web users will see the page shown below if he/she enters an email address that already exists in the SSO database.

As of 7.5.2, if your organization allows multiple web users to share the same email address, web users will see the page shown below if he/she enters an email address that already exists in the SSO database.

As of 7.5.2, the CUS CHECKDUPEMAIL application parameter will determine on the Guest Email Lookup, Membership Join Registration, Registration, and User Already Exists controls in e-Business whether the same email address can be shared by multiple web users. If you set this parameter to 'N" (you allow duplicate emails), multiple users can share the same email address. In addition, if you allow web users to share the same email address, you should NOT set the CUS WEBUSERNAME_FORMAT application parameter to "CUSTOMER_EMAIL_ADDRESS".
