Digital Publications

Significant changes have been made in the 7.4.0 release to support digital publications and the latest BPA rules for reporting digital publication audit data.

Digital and Print Subscription Products

A subscription product can be defined as “Print”, “Digital” or both.  A subscription product should only be defined as both print and digital if a subscriber gets both based on a single subscription order.

If a subscription is available in either print format or digital format, two subscription products should be created.  Both subscription products should have the same parent product code so that they will both be included in the same BPA reports.

If an organization converts subscribers to digital subscriptions but is still making the publication available in print format, BPA requires that subscribers must have an easy way to request that they receive the print publication.  If the organization wants to provide the option for subscribers to opt-out of receiving their subscription in digital format by opting into receiving the print format, product relationships should be defined using the SUB_PRINT_DIGITAL product relation type to link the print and digital subscription products.  For more details, see Defining General Subscription Product Information.

Options to transfer from digital subscriptions to print subscriptions are provided both in the back office and on the web, both for subscription orders and for subscriptions conveyed as a member benefit. This is covered in detail in online help for processing subscription orders.

SUB670/SUB671 Subscription Fulfillment Batch Processes

The SUB670 and SUB671 subscription fulfillment batch processes have been updated to support digital subscriptions.  Those batch processes create records in Sub_Issue_Fulfillment and in Sub_Audit_Stats, which are used for BPA reporting.  If a subscriber transfers from a digital subscription to a print subscription, SUB670/SUB671 will not consider that a “drop” from the digital subscription and an “add” for the print subscription.

BPA suggests that subscribers to digital publications should be notified by email when their digital issue is available.  If organizations wish to have SUB670 generate the email notification, a new notification event should be defined using Personify’s Notification Services.

If subscribers to digital publications wish to receive notification that their issue is available at a specific email address, the subscriber can specify this in the regular customer communication methods.  For more information, please see Viewing a Constituent's Contact Information in CRM360®.

For additional details, see SUB670–Subscription Issue Fulfillment.

ORD650 Order Renewals Batch Process

If a subscriber has opted out of receiving a digital publication by choosing to instead receive the print publication, the ORD650 Renewal batch process will renew the subscriber’s subscription to the subscriber’s choice.

BPA paragraph reports have all been modified to break out counts for Print, Digital or Both.  See Paragraph sections 1 through 4.
