As of 7.5.0, unique icons can be defined for certain categories of products to display in your online store. These icons will display on the Product Listing, Product Detail, and Event Calendar pages in e-Business.
Images can be added for product class codes that are stored at the subsystem level. If an icon image is defined for the product class of that product, the icon will be displayed as the first image.
Icon images can also be defined for product category codes. There are two main differences between product category codes and product class codes. First, product category codes are stored in App_Code, but are not classified by subsystem; rather, all product category codes are assigned to the ORD subsystem. Second, while a product can only have one product class code, a product can have an unlimited number of product category codes.
Therefore, for convenience, images can be associated with all product category codes at the App_Code level, but the decision about which icons to display for a particular product will be made at the product category level rather than the App_Code. If an organization wants to have an icon display for a specific product category code defined for a product, they should copy the icon from App_Code to Product_Category.
The best-practice recommendation for using iconography on product listing pages is that no more than three or four icons be used.
Icons are not intended to display hierarchically. All icons that apply to a product will display, not in order of priority. Product class icons will display first, followed by category icons sorted in order by App_Code.DISPLAY_ORDER.
Configuring the back office settings for categorical iconography requires the following steps:
1. Define images for the codes defined for each subsystem's "PRODUCT_CLASS" system type.
2. Define images for the codes defined for the ORD "PRODUCT_CATEGORY" system type.
3. Assign a product class to a product.
4. Assign a product category to a product.
For more information on setting up images for product class and product category codes, please see Configuring the Back Office Settings for Categorical Iconography. There is no additional web setup required for categorical icons to display.
After the back office settings have been configured, your customers will see categorical icons display on the product listing page similar to what is shown below. For more information, please see Configuring the Back Office Settings for Categorical Iconography.
Users can click the Legend link at the top of the product listing to display a dynamic list that only includes icons for the products displayed on the page, as shown below.
