Working with Universes

Data Analyzer uses the concept of a "universe" to let you query and report on your database data using BusinessObjects software. Universes are, in a sense, the backbone of Data Analyzer. A "universe" is a metadata layer that acts as the central repository containing objects. Objects are entities that are comprised of database column names, pre-defined calculations, filters, conditions, or measures.

Universes present a user-friendly, intuitive and logical set of data elements that you can drag and drop onto the report/query screen. Universes hide the complexity of the data structure, because all of the tables (and table joins) are set up behind the scenes and are not visible in Data Analyzer.

The Data Analyzer contains the following universes:

Universes are organized by subsystem so that each universe has data elements commonly used for generating reports and queries for a particular business area. You can refresh your universe data in the Query window to make sure you have the very latest report data available; this is done by simply clicking refresh button in the toolbar.

Administrators can modify these pre-defined universes to include organization-specific information that may not be part of the standard Personify release using the BusinessObjects Designer application. This includes adding fields and tables created with Extender.
