Buy for Group Control Overview

This control allows group mangers to purchase product(s) or create meeting registrations for the group(s) for which they are managers. This control can be used for all three workflows (i.e., Corporate and Staff Management, Committee Management, and Chapter Management).

Group managers are only able to purchase products for their group if they have the permissions to be able to buy for a group and the product was enabled for group purchase. For more information, refer to:

·            Setting up a Product for a Group Purchase

·            Setting up a Group Manager's Permissions

To add the Buy for Group control to a page on the web, see Configuring the Web Settings for the Buy for Group Control.

Customer Impact

The workflow for a group manager differs if he/she is purchasing a meeting product, membership product, or any other type of product; however, Corporate and Staff Management, Committee Management, and Chapter Management follow the same steps to either purchase a meeting, membership, or any other type of product. For example, the steps to purchase a meeting product for a group is the same for Corporate and Staff Management, Committee Management, and Chapter Management. To see from a group manager's perspective how he/she can purchase a meeting product, membership product, or any other type of product for his/her group member(s) online, please refer to:

·            Purchasing a Product for a Group

·            Purchasing a Meeting Product for a Managed Group

·            Purchasing a Membership Product for a Group

Group managers can purchase a membership product for an individual in their group; however, as of 7.5.0, corporate join is NOT part of base. In addition, there is no renewal or member join control for company records. The existing My Membership Summary control expects an individual’s information and serves as the starting point for a group manager to purchase or renew a membership. The My Membership Summary control only supports "I" records. See Membership Summary Control for more information. However, using the Pay Open Balances control, group managers can pay a balance for ANY customer type. See Pay Open Balances Control for more information.

The roster presented for group orders does not include any filters. If you wish to enhance this to support orders for larger groups, you will need to consider the best way to “short list” members. Simply adding the filters that are provided on the general roster page is likely not enough. The group manager will need to apply a filter, then another, and then another as the recipients/registrants are selected. You may wish to “freeze” previous selections so they do not disappear from view with each filter attempt.
