Terminating a Volunteer

Sometimes a volunteer must be terminated and this screen allows you to track when the termination occurred and for what reason.

When a volunteer is terminated (which means this volunteer can never be a volunteer again for the organization), the current volunteer service record is also terminated. The current volunteer service record is the latest record, where the Start Date is less than or equal to the current date. Future service record, however, are deleted. The system does not save the Termination Date if it is less than the Start Date or greater than the system date.

Termination of a volunteer is permanent. Once terminated, a volunteer cannot be activated. For short-term deactivation, set the Volunteer Status to ‘Inactive’ or ‘Suspended’.

To terminate a volunteer:

1.    From the Common Tasks task category, click Terminate Volunteer.
The Terminate Volunteer screen displays, as shown below.

2.    If necessary, select the Termination Date from the drop-down.

3.    If necessary, select the Termination Reason Code from the drop-down.
Values in the drop-down are populated based on the non-fixed codes defined for the VOL "TERMINATION_REASON" system type.

4.    If necessary, enter any Comments related to the termination.

5.    Click Save.
A confirmation message is displayed.

6.    If you would like to permanently terminate the volunteer, select Yes and click OK.
